Standard solar panels are heavy, mainly due to the thick glass plate on the front, clamped with the cells and the back in a massive, solid frame. Cat5 Solar’s DynamIQ is a unique, ultra-lightweight solar panel. The innovative design meets a variety of requirements.

Together with leading global partners in North America and the EU, our unique, innovative front substrate with durable and protective properties was developed. The main goal is: reducing weight without compromising the highest quality.

Our technology turned out to be made for this. The rear of the DynamIQ module uses a built-in metallic environmental barrier. In addition, we have developed a unique high-tech fiber back carrier and encapsulation material, including a unique PV module laminate.

The result is an ultra-light panel with unparalleled strength and still fully recyclable.

The MWT backsheet technology marginalizes the impact of micro-cracks and hotspots to an absolute minimum. In addition, internal redundancy is optimally guaranteed with 61 active contacts per cell (3,660 at panel level). Especially compared to the limited number of busbars or wires in any traditional module. Due to its low weight, the panel is easy to handle and can be used in places where standard systems are not suitable.

More net surface area to generate power

Each photovoltaic cell converts sunlight into electricity. PERC monocrystalline cells are known to have a wider spectral response, so they can generate a lot of energy also in early morning and late afternoon light. The PERC (Passivated Emitter Rear Cell) technology consists in the use of an additional insulator insert between the upper part of the electrode and the bottom of the P-N junction. The insert is responsible for limiting the attraction of electrons to the aluminum electrode. What’s more, the additional element performs a passivation function, consisting in supporting the reflection of sunlight back to the base of the cell, which translates into higher electricity yield. Combined with MWT (Multi Wrap Through) technology, the cells have a larger working surface exposed to sunlight than conventional cells.

Minimized risk of micro-cracks

More durable than conventional modules

Small cracks in solar cells are invisible to the naked eye, but they affect the efficiency of the photovoltaic system. Most solar cells consist of very thin silicon wafers, typically about 0.15-0.20 mm thick. Pressure or stress can cause micro-cracks. Newcomers to the solar industry often unknowingly create micro cracks by placing tool bags on top of stacked panels or even wearing panels on their heads as they walk towards a ladder. Standing or kneeling on the panels during installation also contributes to the formation of micro-cracks.

Minimal “Light Induced Degradation” (LID)

Significantly greater performance throughout its lifetime

Due to technological advances in cell design and cell efficiency, the impact of LID on our DynamIQ modules is extremely low. Thus, the efficiency over the entire service life is greatly increased.

LID is an effect that occurs as soon as the panel is connected, the cells need to “warm up” in full daylight before they reach optimal performance.
